MSCA Overview

Introduction

MSCA:

  • Stands for Mobile Supply Chain Application.
  • MSCA is for staff in warehouse, shop floor transaction.
  • MSCA transactions are carried out from hand-held devices.
  • To efficiently operate and visibility in the system - RF-ID (Radio Frequency  Identification) readers are used by warehouse/shop floor staff to read bar codes and use them in transactions.
Structure of the MWA And RF device communication

  •  RF-ID devices are nothing but Scan guns that are used to scan bar codes.
  • for example -  the scan guns available at D-mart, Big Bazaar to scan the products are nothing but RF-ID devices.

 MWA:

  • Stands for Mobile Web Application.
  • MWA is telnet based application that runs on internet (WIFI and GPRS) based wireless devices.
  • Telnet client is configured on the handheld device, for testing and development it is used on desktop (GUI Client).
  • MWA Applications are based on Java.
  • The Device on the right is a MWA hosting device which can scan bar codes and perform other functionalities like Sub inventory transfers.
The MSCA Application is used in the MWA Devices like the one in the right side.
MSCA is Mobile version of Oracle apps in which we have the warehouse functionalities.

Mobile Supply Chain Applications (MSCA) for Oracle Process Manufacturing (OPM) supports mobile execution of:
  • Process manufacturing
  • Manufacturing Execution Systems
Warehouse management is the main core of the MSCA.
Usage-
  • MSCA is essential when the real-time recording of transactions on a desktop computer is not feasible at the point of execution.
  • For example - When a truck load comes to warehouse as inventory , it is not feasible to input every single bar-code of the carton in the system using a desktop at the site where it is unloaded. In this scenario a hand held device (with MSCA) is useful to scan and directly feed into the system.
  • The diagram below can explain the usage of the MSCA hand held device in a more appropriate way.

The MWA container is the Oracle Applications EBS System.

Telnet Listener-

  • Telnet is Client Server protocol.
  • It is reliable connection oriented protocol.

  • Connection oriented protocol is a network communication mode where a communication session or a semi-permanent connection is established before any useful data can be transferred.

Type of work in MSCA application

  • Development of custom screens for hand held devices
  • Extend the existing MSCA screen
  • Personalization of the MSCA screen
